Griffiths Hire Shops Ltd was initially set up by Mr Chris Griffiths in 1980 trading from a premises in Gobowen village near Oswestry. The owner had experience in the construction and plant hire industry for many years and realised that there was a need locally for a tool hire outlet and so Griffiths Hire Shops was formed. After trading solely from Gobowen for several years, the first additional shops were opened in Whitchurch, Wrexham and another in Oswestry.

In the year 2000, a new premises was built on the Maes y Clawdd Industrial Estate in Oswestry and the two Oswestry area shops were amalgamated there. Since then, the company has grown, becoming the largest hire outlet in Oswestry, Wrexham and the Whitchurch area. They supply a wide range of equipment ranging from small hand tools up to larger items such as excavators and mobile access equipment fot the building trade, industry and DIY.

Griffiths Hire Shops also has a dedicated training facility with a training room for 12 delegated and a 90m2 practical assessment area to offer in-house or IPAF powered access and PASMA scaffold tower training through an accredited member. The company itself is a member of IPAF for hire and work closely with a accredited IPAF training member.

The main function of the business remains tool hire but Griffiths Hire Shops Limited can supply a vast range of equipment and consumables for sales. Both Oswestry and Wrexham shops are ideally situated just off the main A4836 trunk road. The company remains a true local family business and it is rin by Chris's sons Kevin and Paul with the motto of the business being: "if we can't help, we will find someone who can".
