The business was originally started by Herbert Rothwell, a distinguished ex-serviceman, who in January 1947 set up a small engineering supply enterprise in his garden shed. Herbert's enterprise very quickly proved so successful that he moved into larger premises; eventually erecting a purpose-built warehouse at the corner of Duke Street in Rochdale; the home of their present head office.
The company was formally incorporated in 1954 and remained in the Rothwell family's hands until 1977, when it was acquired by the current chairman, Roy Nuttall. Roy was joined by his son Chris Nuttall in 1992, who became the managing director in 1995 continuing the firm's proud tradition of family ownership, ensuring the same continuity of commitment in service and value to all our customers.
The customer policy established by Herbert Rothwell in the formative years continues as strongly today as it did in when it was first written. The policy they proudly uphold is to provide all their customers a personal service, prompt deliveries and always at competitive prices. Herbert would doubtlessly be amazed at the size and the variety of their customer base and the many thousands of Draper products they hold in stock to meet our customers day-to-day professional requirements.
