Power Tool manufacturer in England, UK
The Power Tools Division of the Bosch Group is the world market leader for power tools and power tool accessories. In 2012, its workforce generated sales of 4.0 billion euros, 90 percent of which outside of Germany. With brands such as Bosch, Skil and Dremel, the division stands for customer focus and great engineering progress. The core success factors are innovative strength and pace of innovation. Each year, Bosch Power Tools launches more than 100 new products onto the market. The division generated about 40 percent of its sales in 2012 with products that have been on the market for less than two years. The business segments electric power tools, accessories, measuring tools and garden tools of Bosch Power Tools outperformed the market.
The Bosch Power Tools Division grew considerably over the past year although some core markets noticeably lost momentum. With a sales increase of six percent, the manufacturer of power tools reached the four billion euros mark for the first time. The size of the workforce remained at the same level as the previous year, with 19,000 associates at 37 locations. In 2012, the overall market grew by four percent to 24.5 billion euros. The power tools and accessories submarkets grew at similar rates. “Our growth of six percent clearly shows that we have again succeeded in winning market shares”, explained Henning von Boxberg, president of Bosch Power Tools. The division wants to continue this trend in 2013: “We expect to increase sales at a similar rate again this year”, said Mr. von Boxberg during the annual Bosch Power Tools press conference.
The division performed especially well in Asia, where the overall market fell significantly short of the industry’s expectations. This was mainly due to the effect of the economic slowdown in China. “Considering a market growth of only four percent in Asia, it is especially remarkable that we were able to increase our sales in the Asia-Pacific region by 16 percent”, emphasized Mr. von Boxberg. This success is based in particular on the launch of products that are specifically tailored to the needs of professional tradespeople in emerging markets such as China, India and the ASEAN countries – while taking into account the spending power in these markets. In addition to this, Bosch opened the new Chengdu production location in the Pujiang County (China) at the end of 2012. Power tools for the Chinese market will be produced at this location in future. With a growth of twelve percent, the division also performed pleasingly in North America. Market growth in this region was six percent. One of the reasons for the positive sales development is the great market success of the Measuring Tools business unit. Bosch Power Tools managed to grow by three percent on the stagnating European main market, therefore also strengthening its own position in this difficult environment. Overall, the company generates about 90 percent of its sales outside of Germany.

Coltraco Ultrasonics is the OEM of Portalevel™ and Portascanner™ and have been for over 20 years. They have supplied over 15,000 units to customers in 104 countries. These are the basis for becoming the technology manufacturer that we are today manufacturing 14 systems and products.
In their niche field of non-invasive, portable and ultrasonic liquid level measurement, they are the world leaders. The business commenced with the development of a portable ultrasonic liquid level indicator for the UK Government Atomic Energy Research Laboratory at Harwell, and was undertaken by Mr Eric Charlton Hunter in 1987, who had previously worked at the Admiralty Research Laboratory and prior to that specialized in Sonar in the Royal Navy Submarine Service. This was called the Portalevel™.
The work to establish a portable unit took over 3 years, and was accelerated both by users reluctance to continue to employ radioactive isotope technology because of licensing, transportation and storage restrictions, and by operators who had a personal disinclination to use radioactive technology. Coupled to this, in 1986 the Montreal Protocol was developed to control the use of CFC’s, and in that the company began to receive various UK and USA Government requests to aid their monitoring. Supported by some of the world’s largest fire and marine servicing companies, the 1st production unit was released in 1990.

Decorating equipment manufacturer in Chandler's Ford, Hampshire
Draper Tools started out in 1919 when the founder, Bert Draper, sold government surplus and tools around the Kingston Upon Thames' markets. This led to the purchase of the original warehouse, from which the Draper Tool Company Limited as we know it today was born, although at this time it was known as B. Draper & Son Limited and owned the trademark B.D.S. Although Drapers sold its own brand as early as this time, it was also a quality Engineers Merchant and Tool Wholesaler, selling brands well known today, such as, Britool, King Dick, Elliott Lucas, etc.
Bert Draper Passed away in 1963 and control of the Company passed to his son Norman. With the increased business and cramped conditions at Kingston, Norman purchased the freehold rights to the current premises in Chandler's Ford, Hampshire at auction in 1963. Norman pushed the business forward dramatically and developed the 'Draper' brand as we know it today, by importing quality tools from all around the World. He also established 'exclusive' relationships on a family to family basis, with such Companies as Elora and Knipex, which still exist today.
Norman died in 1994 and the Company is now run by his son, John. His wife Joan, who passed away in 1999, produced, almost single-handedly, the Company's first type-written catalogue in 1953. This level of family involvement would be rare in any other company of this size in the UK... But then Draper Tools is no 'other company!'
John took over the reins in 1992 with the task of taking the company into the new century. Draper Tools continues to thrive on a mixture of inward investment, active support for the independent stockist, striving for operational efficiency and all underpinned by the golden rule since 1919 - Guaranteed Quality. The current premises in Chandler's Ford have been added to considerably since its purchase and has now reached a size of 535,000 sq.ft. It is now probably the largest stock of tools in one place in the UK.

Pipe freezer manufacturer in West Hendon, London
Freeze Master is an established company set up especially to manufacture pipe freezing machines.
The machine was invented as a result of Mr. Hallett’s experiences during his years of employment as a refrigeration and domestic appliance engineer. There were often times when he was not able to carry out his work because the plumbers involved had not been able to turn off the water supp.
This can often occur in older blocks of apartments.
On one such occasion teams of contractors were called in to an apartment in London to completely renovate the home for an American family and Mr. Hallett was asked to install the appliances, i.e. the washer, dryer, refrigerator, freezer, ice maker etc. – all American but nobody knew where the stopcock was in this almost Victorian apartment.
Carpet fitters were called back and pipework tracked under floor boards. It took several days to locate the stopcock. Then the plumbers reported that it would not shut off properly. You can imagine the frustration of the occupants – an army of men had been held up from their work by the failure to stop the water supply!
Mr. Hallett discussed the dilemma that finding a means of blocking the water was essential and when the simplest solution of freezing the pipe was agreed decided to challenge the problem.
Most modern plumbers are acquainted with the gas methods for freezing pipes, i.e. the use of CO2 or aerosol spray cans. But there is always the risk when a plumber uses gas cans to freeze a pipe that they will run out of gas in the middle of a job. He has no way of knowing when his gas bottle is emptying if the job might take longer than anticipated, the risk involved can be nerve wracking.
The ChloroFluoroCarbon range of gases, (R12, R22 and R502), that were used in aerosol spray cans at the time became toxic fumes when in contact with a naked flame (such as a plumber’s blow torch) and seriously poisonous.
But instead of squirting gases onto pipes, which end up in the atmosphere, Mr. Hallett decided to develop an electric, motorized, portable refrigeration machine that would not waste the gas into the atmosphere and would freeze pipes for an indefinite period.
Freeze Master machines offer a new safe technology to the plumber and have revolutionised the plumbing and heating industry.Contractors can now carry out repairs and alterations to entire water systems faster, more efficiently, and more profitable than using the old fashioned methods.
It is not unusual to find stop cocks in a poor corroded condition and therefore unusable.
It is also not unusual to find in a large building whole floors, or even blocks of flats, operating from one main stop cock. A drain down could involve troublesome airlocks to occur several days after the refill. The plumber could spend several hours, unpaid, chasing them around.
Using Freeze Master machines to make a temporary ice block in the pipes is the most professional approach to carry out work with minimum disruption to the system.

In every corner of the world you'll find a JCB machine. JCB is one of the world's top three manufacturers of construction equipment. We employ around 12,000 people on four continents and sell our products in 150 countries through 2,000 dealer depot locations.
Throughout our 68 year history, we have always invested heavily in research and development, keeping JCB at the cutting edge of innovation.
Today, JCB has some of the finest engineering facilities across the globe, produces a range of over 300 machines and maintains a reputation for unrivalled customer service.
JCB, a truly world-class and still family owned company.
History of JCB
The very first machine that Mr JCB built was a tipping trailer he made using a £1 welding set and sold at the local market for £45! That was in 1945.
In 1948, there were 6 people working for the company which then made a hydraulic tipping trailer - the very first in the whole of Europe.
In 1953, along came the first machine to be stamped with the JCB logo you see on machines today. This was a Backhoe Loader (what we all call a digger!) and it's the machine that everyone nowadays calls a JCB.
In the 1960s, Mr JCB began the tradition of cool JCB stunts to publicise the company name. This is how the world-famous Dancing Diggers started. If you've never seen the Dancing Diggers before please view our quick movie.
Today, JCB has over 7,000 employees and we make 279 different machines. But we're still based in the Midlands so we've got our own JCB jet and helicopter that we use to fly in our customers.

Alfred Kärcher – inventor and entrepreneur
Alfred Kärcher, like Robert Bosch, Gottlieb Daimler and Graf Zeppelin, was one of the inventors and entrepreneurs that Württemberg produced in such great number since the beginning of the industrial era. With the utmost commitment, he dedicated himself to bringing his ideas to fruition. In 1924, the then 23-year-old completed his studies at the Technical University of Stuttgart and worked first of all at his father's agency, which he developed into an engineer's office. In 1935 he founded his own company in Bad Cannstatt, Stuttgart so that he could produce and market his own products in the field of heating technology. Alfred Kärcher designed and built the "Kärcher salt bath furnace", among other products, for tempering steel and light metal in industry according to his own patent.
In 1939, the family-owned company relocated to Winnenden, where it still has its headquarters. By this time the company was also producing heating devices for aircraft engines and cabin heating systems. Following the Second World War, the company turned its attention to products for urgent, everyday use: round stoves, small cookers, handcarts and trailers for tractors.
Move into cleaning technology
Alfred Kärcher made his breakthrough into the cleaning technology industry in 1950 with the development of the first European hot water high-pressure cleaner (the DS 350 steam jet). The design of the water heater proved to be so pioneering that it still forms the basis of all burners today.
Like so many, Alfred Kärcher did not live to see the global success of his innovation. When he died on 17 September 1959 at the age of 58, his wife Irene took over the management of the company and steered its fortunes for three decades. Today their children Johannes Kärcher and Susanne Zimmermann von Siefart are in charge of the family-owned company in its second generation.
Internationalisation
In 1962, Kärcher founded its first foreign subsidiary in France, followed by Austria and Switzerland. Internationalisation continued apace. In 1975, Kärcher opened a factory in Brazil; 10 years later, the company had founded 16 sales companies in North America, Africa, Australia and elsewhere. By 2012, Kärcher was represented by subsidiaries in 57 countries and generating 85% of its sales abroad. With 40,000 customer service points in over 190 countries, Kärcher provides comprehensive support to its customers all over the world.
Growth through innovation
After a phase of diversification, Kärcher turned its attention to high-pressure cleaning in 1974. During this period, the colour of the machines was changed from blue to the now world-famous Kärcher yellow. In 1980, the company expanded its product range to cover basic cleaning requirements, initially in the areas of transport and buildings. Step by step, the range was expanded with the addition of wet and dry vacuum cleaners, sweeper vacuums and scrubber driers, vehicle washing bays, steam cleaners, cleaning agents and drinking water and wastewater treatment systems.
Among the milestones in Kärcher's history was the introduction in 1984 of the HD 555 profi, the first portable high-pressure cleaner, and the subsequent expansion into the consumer market. In 1993, this range was expanded to include indoor products and Kärcher has since added steam cleaners and vacuum cleaners for private households to its range. The RoboCleaner RC 3000 was launched in 2003 as the world's first fully automatic robotic vacuum cleaner. In 2007, Kärcher moved into the completely new sector of gardening, which includes pumps for watering, water removal and service water supply in households, as well as an extensive range of accessories.
In 1986, Kärcher launched its pioneering roller brush technology for scrubber driers in the professional range. Thanks to the development of a new rotary nozzle (dirt blaster) in 1995, the cleaning effect of the high-pressure cleaner was almost doubled. The dust intake of commercial wet and dry vacuum cleaners was continuously improved, and in 2007 the innovative TACT filter cleaning system was launched. New procedures were also developed in the course of worldwide cleaning projects: the 284 travertine columns on St Peter's Square in Rome were restored using a specially developed spray process over a total area of 25,000 m². Since 2009, Kärcher has been selling ultra-high pressure cleaners, which, at up to 2,500 bar pressure, not only clean but restore facades and strip concrete. In the same year, a multipurpose municipal sweeper was released onto the market and new target groups were gained with the launch of water dispensers.
Kärcher becomes a global market leader
Innovation has been and continues to be the most important growth factor. In 2011 alone, Kärcher launched over 100 new products. The global market leader in cleaning technology will continue to be characterised by its ingenuity, top performance and innovative problem solving.

Key to Makita's vision is the constant strive for innovation in our technology and our products. From our safety solutions like AVT and dust extraction, through to our Lithium-Ion battery and chargers technology, Makita is at the forefront for new ideas.
This is all down to our dedicated research and development centre in Japan, where engineers work hard to constantly improve our products in all aspects, from power consumption through to ergonomic design and function.
Manufacturing
Makita manufactures its tools in plants across the globe, from its headquarters in Japan to here, in the UK. Our Telford manufacturing plant is the only full-production facility for power tools in the UK and has been successfully running construction on many of our top line cordless power tools since 1991.
Makita's investment in the Telford plant has seen it take over production for the highly important MXT Combi Drill, one of the company's best selling products.
Makita's acquisition of Dolmar in 1991 has also meant that we have one of the strongest histories in the Outdoor Power Equipment market and the plant in Germany constantly delivers tools worldwide to the highest quality.
At the heart of our manufacturing process is the belief that for a good tool you need a good motor, and Makita makes every effort to make sure our motors are of the best quality. We source the absolute best raw materials and components in order to build the most powerful and efficient motors we can imagine.
Premium grade steel is used to produce armature shafts and gears, and only steel of the highest grade is used, whilst high grade magnetic copper wire goes into each and every one of our tools to ensure superior current flow whilst withstanding extreme temperatures.
Our quality control tests each, and every, machine that leaves our manufacturing plants. Nothing is left untested; on the motor alone we perform 19 extensive tests!
Our high standards go a long way, which is probably why when you buy Makita, it's likely to be a lasting relationship.

MBW has always been know as a company that stretches "the envelope" in its effort to advance technology. By 2005 MBW's product line had expanded to over 90 individual products with hundreds of model variations. Some of MBW's more recent and award winning product developments include:
Smart Rammers - Improving compaction performance yet reducing vibration at the operator position through increases in reaction mass and a lower center of gravity. The Smart Rammer features the industries first integral tach/hour meter to verify that the rammer is running at an optimal level from a compaction viewpoint and to indicate service intervals for owners or rental operators.
EXA & UVW Vibratory Wheels - These attachments for backhoes and excavators combine host machine down-pressure with vibratory dynamics. EXAs & UVWs are versatile and can be used across the full spectrum of soil types. Productivity gains compared to alternative methods offer huge potential. Maintenance is low compared to other compaction equipment.
Soil Compaction Meter and Supervisor - Low cost, battery powered, and easy to use seismic technology that informs compaction equipment operators when they have achieved maximum achievable soil stiffness and corresponding density under existing conditions. The answer to high cost, often impractical alternative soil testing methods. Independently tested with very high correlation to typical density specifications. Provides direct index of soil stiffness.
Slip Form Paver - A downsized curb & gutter slipform paver offering users a technically advanced, high production machine at an affordable price. It excels at pouring tight radii. Pouring parameters 18" high by 48" wide.
Soil Pick - A Pneumatic soil excavator that employs a supersonic air stream to locate and excavate around buried utilities. A selective excavator in that only non-porous soils are fragmented and removed. Will not damage utilities and tree roots. A multi-application tool with uses in construction, agriculture, shipping and many other fields.
World Class Manufacturing
MBW's passion to innovate may be most readily apparent in its product line. But it's MBW's innovative approach to running its business coupled with ongoing investment in engineering, production and data processing technology that has enabled MBW to operate with world class efficiency. MBW's plant is state of-the-art. The heart of MBW's production facility is a battery of CNC metal working machinery. Microsoft Windows XP workstations with SolidWorks software link manufacturing and engineering departments. MBW also utilizes MAPICS XA software on an IBM iSeries for accounting and inventory control which includes an unparalleled MRP (Material Requirements Planning) package. MBW has received national attention in computer industry trade publications as an American manufacturer on the cutting edge of computer related manufacturing methodologies.
